The Practice was responsible for master planning the Estate to receive the Princess Diana Memorial Museum. Not only did it involve the restoration and conversion of the Grade II* Stables, but also significant alterations to the historic landscape to accommodate visitors to the Garden to view “the Island Mausoleum”. The 18th Century Corinthian Temple, the Brew House and other garden buildings were repaired and restored as part of the development. |

GQA were invited to be lead consultants on the National Trust’s Maori Meeting House in the grounds of the Palladian mansion at Clandon Park. Hinemihi o te Ao Tawhito, the correct name of the building that was brought over from New Zealand and installed in 1892, has unfortunately become rather tired and the roof is failing so the Trust is taking the opportunity to restore the meeting house whilst repairing the roof. GQA feel very privileged to be working on such an important part of Maori history in the UK and within such fine settings of Clandon Park. |

The original Palladian house, which was used by Princess Amelia, daughter of George II, as her summer residence, has not survived, being replaced by a later building. Nevertheless much of the William Kent garden survives, including the original Bathhouse. The Practice was responsible for restoring and converting this building. It had previously been a ‘Building At Risk’ and had suffered severely from vandalism. |

A Grade I Palladian mansion of the Cobham family who were also responsible for the construction of Stowe Park. The Grade I listed landscape, contemporary with Stourhead and Stowe, contains internationally important garden buildings, including the Grade I Greek Temple by “Athenian” Stuart, the first example of the revived use of Greek Doric architecture in Europe. We are currently advising on the restoration of the house and its garden buildings. |

As part of Westminster City Council’s initiative for the Millennium GQA carried out archaeological and historical research enabling the reinstatement of garden railings removed in the 1940s from Talbot Square and Montagu Square. One unanticipated outcome was to similarly survey the boundary railings of Kensington Palace for the Crown Estates. Click here to view additional photos >> |
