The practice brings together a dedicated team of professionals with wide experience and expertise in new and historic buildings throughout the world, committed to providing a personal service tailored to the client's specific requirements.

We produced the Conservation Plan for the Royal Naval College, Greenwich and carried out a quadrennial condition survey of the entire complex in 1996.  We are continuing the valued relationship with the Greenwich Foundation by carrying out further surveys as and when required, together with our other roles at Greenwich, (see other sections on web site).

Another Conservation Plan dealt with a very small, but historically and architecturally important monument by Sir Christopher Wren, the Temple Bar. Originally located in the countryside and then re-instated in the City.

We are also responsible for quinquennial inspections and condition surveys on a number of major historic churches by Nicholas Hawksmoor, Sir Christopher Wren and George Edmund Street.

The Practice has two partners Giles Quarme and Dr Archie Walls.  Giles Quarme is Chairman of the Ancient Monuments Society, an Executive Council Member of the Georgian Group and sits on the London Advisory Committee of English Heritage.  Dr. Archie Walls is an acknowledged expert on Islamic architecture, he advised the Prince of Wales on the earthquake damaged historic city of Bam; in Iraq, he served on the UK Government’s committee for the Export of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, he was a member of ICOMOS-UK International Committee, he has been a Main Committee member for five years of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings; and has been a council member of the Palestine Exploration Fund and of the Royal Asiatic Society.

Members of GQA lecture in the UK and abroad on specialist and non-specialist subjects pertaining to the nature of our work in conservation and historic buildings.
Giles has lectured at the Architectural Association, the Swedish Institute, the Universities of Baroda and Malmo, the Department of National Heritage and the Georgian Group and for CEPAG.  Archie has given a varied number of lectures and these can be seen in his list of lectures in the section on our website, ‘About GQA’.

Both Giles and Archie have written extensively on their specialist subjects and many of our projects have appeared in national publications, like the Evening Standard, Country Life, The Times, House & Country, Building Design, Architect’s Journal and some international publications.
